The day’s research began with questions large enough to invite polished nonsense. The first correction was to stop assuming they all had one answer. Different accounts of sound action were allowed to remain different, and each had to state what it could not explain.
The second correction applied to the research process itself. Models had produced an impressive operating program before the program had done any work. The useful decision was to stop refining the machinery and make it face a small, real case.
